A Space in Time

 

…  And as I watch the stream trickling by,

Licking away all traces of yesterday’s travelers,

Soothing all wrinkles in time

I wonder – If I flow with it,

Would Time be still ?…

Would I ?…

 

 

 

I love family outings. Going out to a restaurant with our kids is particularly enjoyable for my husband and I, not because we like eating out so much, but because we can hold all three of them “hostage” to a plate of a good steak for a couple of hours, long enough to have a decent (albeit often humorous) conversation, without as much “danger” of being “rescued” (i.e. distracted) by phone calls, sudden “urges” to dash upstairs to check email messages or appetite curbed by a desire to go back to the video game….

 

The trouble is – we have a hard time deciding where to go. Always. Sometimes this indecision takes the wind out of the whole affair and we end up staying put, bringing in Chinese as a last resort… And half of us don’t even like Chinese food…

I don’t like mantras. I‘m not into “oms” , ceremonials, chanting etc. I don’t need music for my Yoga practice to be complete. I like the silence. I find it’s easier to “listen to my inner voice” that way. However, I do have “mottos”, or “affirmations”, that I repeat to myself as often as I can and need to, especially when things seem to go a little awry, when my emotions threaten to create an unexpected tidal wave…I find that they help me “ground” myself, recalibrate, regain my balance.

One of my favorite mottos (my own, or, at least – I haven’t read It anywhere yet…I don’t think…) goes as follows:
